Using the right eyeshadow brush can make a huge difference. Even when using less expensive eyeshadows, the brush for application can make the outcome look similar to using more expensive eyeshadows. For most eye looks I use the same four brushes. I am going to explain the purpose of each brush in the picture from top to bottom. The brush in the top is great for applying an eyeshadow base all over the eye- from the lash line to the eyebrow. I use this brush only for base eyeshadows because it is too wide for precise application. The second brush from the top is what I use to apply shadow in the eye crease. The bristles are fluffy and form an oval shape, making it perfect for a smokey effect in the crease. The third brush is what I use mainly for eyelid application. The bristles are more condensed and softer than the top brush, making it better for more exact placement of color. Finally, the brush on the bottom is used to apply powdered eyeliner. I mainly use this under the bottom lashes. It's wide enough to create a smokey line, without being too dramatic. I have experimented with many brushes, and I have found out that splurging is worth it in the long run. I have had my Nars brushes since about junior year of high school... and they are still in great condition (the key is washing them once and a while. I use either soap and water or brush cleaner... depending on my mood). Sephora sells quality brushes for a decent price. Plus they have soooo many different types, so you can find the ones that work best for you.
