As I have said before, I am obsessed with mascara (and lots of it). So I decided to gather up some of my bottles and compare them after 2 coats on my curled lashes...get ready for some intense stuff.
Exhibit A is pic of my bare eye lashes ~lookin' good~
The first mascara I tried was the Make Up For Ever Smokey Extravagant Mascara ($24). I thought the brush was a bit too bulky for my liking, which made it easy to accidentally smudge. It did however give my eyelashes a good amount of volume...which I can't complain about.
The Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara ($28.50) was the next to try on my list. I like this mascara better than the regular Diorshow because of the bent brush, which really does make a difference producing curlier eyelashes...in my opinion. The mascara can get a little messy, but overall it gave me dark thick and curly lashes- can you ask for anything better?!
The third mascara was the Trish McEvoy High Volume Mascara ($31). This one was probably my least favorite because of the tiny brush. Its convenient to get the small eyelashes in the corners of your eye... but thats about it... I had to brush through my eyelashes numerous times to get desired results. I really love Trish McEvoy's other products... but their mascara is nothing too special for me.
The Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara ($21) was next. I have tried Tarte's Amazonian Clay Bronzer and Foundation and I was very happy with them... So I decided to put the mascara to the test. I didn't notice much special with it honestly. I did not like how it made my ends look, and the bristles on the brush are flimsy. Amazonian clay in mascara isn't really necessary I guess.
This is the Covergirl Clump Crusher Extensions Mascara ($6-7 depending on where you buy it). It definitely produces a more natural looking lash. It does in fact live up to its name, because not a clump was found during application. This is one of the better drugstore mascaras I have tried, and I recommend it.
Lastly, I tried the Maybelline Mega Plush Volum' Express Mascara ($6-7). I did not like the flimsy-ness of the brush or the fact that it didn't separate them very well. Although... it did give me very soft eyelashes. Even after the two coats my eyelashes weren't hard and stiff like with other mascaras.
Overall the mascara testing went well. In my opinion, it is not necessary to splurge on mascara. When I buy it I tend to get drug store brand (aka Clump Crusher) because I go through bottles in about a month or too because I cake on that stuff. Positive differences are more commonly seen in expensive brands, but not in all cases (hence the Trish Mascara). A higher price does not automatically make it better. But hey I mean if you found your top-dollar dream mascara and you have money to blow... go all out I fully support you. I hope this little test offered some insight in regards to choosing your next mascara, and don't be afraid to try new and different brands :-)
