So lately contouring has been the talk of the town in the cosmetics world. I have seen all too many diagrams on how-to contour the entire face... while it does give you airbrushed-looked results (Kim K...), it is a detailed process. I personally think contouring the entire face is too much work for my average daily life. On a day-to-day basis I pretty much just stick to a "3" shape on either side of my face with bronzer (note: I make sure to use the bronzer closer to my hairline instead of right in the middle of my forehead), and a little highlighter on the top of my cheekbones. There are only a few key places on the face that are necessary to contour when you decide to be more detailed. The first step to contouring is finding the right palette to use. There is the decision to use either cream or powder. My personal preference is powder... but thats just what I like. Cream palettes are very popular... and you use them as you would use powder, with a brush. I have always used the Nars Contour Blush in Olympia. The darker shade has some some taupe/pink color to it, so it looks more natural on my skin tone when I use it. Both the colors in this palette are subtle, so it's easy to make your contouring more or less distinguished depending on how much you use. The Classic Mini Multitasker Brush #45.5 from Sephora is perfect for blending... it's so easy to use. Plus its only $14... no complaints there. First, I use the darker color and make small circles with my brush under/on the bottom of my cheekbones. I like to create more of a shadow than a line... so it's very important to blend. I also use a little of the darker color on the sides of my nose, and on the jawline. I may even swipe a little on my temples if I wanna make it more interesting. As for the lighter color... I swipe it over my cheekbones (after I put on a little blush on the apple of my cheeks), a little on the bridge of my nose, and occasionally I will add some above my brow and on the center of my forehead. And there you go... simple and easy contouring.
Products I Recommend
Nars Contour Blush $42
Classic Mini Multitasker Brush $14
Flatter Yourself Contour Brush Set from Sephora- I break this set out for special occasions because they give me a flawless contouring job. I really like the flat buffer brush for blending, it creates a great shadowy look. The stippling brush is perfect for applying finishing powder because the bristles are further apart than the buffing brush, making it useful for applying a thin coat of powder. Oh and the brushes are soooo soft. $48
