I almost feel like lipstick can be overlooked in one's makeup regime. I know that for me personally, perfecting my eye and contour looks remain my top priorities. Typically I don't want to put time into my lipstick regime because I know it will just smear all over my face, or wear off when I eat something. This is inevitable, but what if I told you certain tips and tricks that could help prevent these things from happening? You're in luck because there are certain things you can do to help your lipstick look poppin' all throughout the day.
The first step to perfect lips is the prep. Before anything, having soft and moisturized lips is the first step. Sugar scrubs for lips are becoming popular, but to save money i just brush my lips with my wet toothbrush and wipe them with a dry towel. This will sloth off the dead skin, and leave your lips feeling smooth as velvet. As for moisturizing I like to use anything from coconut oil to Aquaphor. I typically don't spend a lot of money on day to day lip balms... it just doesn't seem necessary to me.
After your lips are feeling' nice and smooth, it's time for the lip transformation to begin. First things first, I put concealer all over and around my lips. This acts as a base, and will help prevent your lipstick from bleeding out and will make the color pop. The next step is the lip liner. I have seen universal lip liners around these days... which are supposed to help prevent the color from bleeding for any color lipstick. I am yet to try one, but I have heard good things. Personally, I only own a few neutral liners in shades of pink and brown. I think you really only need to own a few lip liners in a couple key colors to wear with a variety of lipstick shades. When wearing a different color liner than lipstick, make sure to make sure the color is blended and the transition seamless for a natural effect... blending is KEY in every makeup regime. I'm sure we have all seen the failed cases of over-lining lips... but it is possible to successfully over-line your lips to make them appear bigger. I have thin lips, so I just outline right outside of my lip shape. You will probably have to practice tracing your lips a few times, but I promise it gets easier. After I do the initial lining, I fill my lips in with the pencil. Then I will apply my lipstick, blending it in with the liner. This is an easy way to get full, plump, and perfect looking lips. If you want to add some dimension to your lips, I like to add some highlighter to finish off my look. I just dab a little bit on my bottom lip and cupid's bow to give off a slight sheen to the high-points of my lips. It just adds a little something extra.
Keep on keepin' it real...

Lip Products I Swear By
Dior Creme de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm- Just wow. This little guy is basically a pot of gold. The balm seems typical, but the result is far from that. It plumps your lips without any tingling sensation, and the subtle pink gives just a hint of color. And the smell... don't even get me started. Straight up rose petal scent. 28
Nars Satin Lip Pencil- I've talked about this product before... and I have to bring it up again because it's just that good. This pencil glides on smooth, leaving you with glossy smooth lips. This product serves as a lip liner and lip stick all in one. It's safe to say, it's great for any time of the day and on the go. 26
Trish McEvoy Long Wear Lip Liner- This liner comes in two shades... both nudes. As I stated above, for day to day makeup a neutral liner is all you need. This particular product can be applied lightly if you are going for a subtle nude lip. It can also be applied heavier for a bold look. Oh, and as the title would suggest, this stuff is VERY long lasting. 28.50
