Sorry I've been MIA for a couple weeks, life has been pretty crazy back at OU. When I mean "busy" I mean that half the time I was hanging with my friends and going out. There was a productive aspect to all the partying and that was that I was able to to experiment with new makeup looks on all my friends and myself. I posted a bunch of pictures on my Instagram account (@alexbertolinimakeup), and for this post I'm going to break down the looks and products.
Right before I left for school I was able to try this look out on my BFF Rachel. And I must say I was pretty proud of the turnout. My grandma hooked me up a few weeks ago with a bunch of new Bare Minerals Eyeshadow. Bare Minerals can be kinda hard to use and messy if you don't tap the brush to get rid of the excess powder. They do have a wide range of gorgeous and natural colors, however. I chose colors that I thought would compliment her eye color: a dusty purple (Cable Car) and a very subtle iridescent tan (Blissful Pearl). For her brows, I used the L'Oreal Brow Stylist Designer Pencil in Brown. I just did my basic contouring for her: AKA Nars Contouring Blush, Diorskin Nude Shimmer, and RMS Living Luminizer. As for the lips... I have been really in to lip liner lately. I feel like lip liner is a product that people normal don't think about using, but really should. We all can't have full lips like my friend Rachel here, but lip liner will make your lips appear larger and more defined. I used a Sephora Lip Liner Pencil. They are cheap and the color is long-lasting. They sell mini liners, which are good for trying out new colors... and they are only 6 bucks! I topped off the lips with Nars gloss in Orgasm (classic). This was one of my favorite makeovers I have done recently because I felt like I was able to both make her features pop and her skin glow.
Products
Bare Minerals Eyeshadow in Blissful Pearl and Cable Car- They no longer sell these colors, but I was able to find similar ones on their website... Nude Sand in place of Blissful Pearl and Soul Sister in place of Cable Car. 14
Diorskin Nude Shimmer in Pink- Subtle pink blush. Very natural and compliments a wide variety of skin tones. 56
Sephora Lip Liner to Go- They don't sell the shade I used anymore... but the most similar would have to be their Rosewood color. Its a beautiful dusty rose. 6
Nars Lip Gloss in Orgasm- Everyone should try this gloss.... at least once. But I know you'll be hooked. 26

My next victim was my roommate Anna. I wanted to create a neutral and glowy look this time because she has such great skin and I wanted to really emphasize that. I used an older Chanel eyeshadow palette consisting of a pearly-white color for the base, a pastel pink for the lid, and a shimmery mocha color for the crease. The Marc Jacobs Gel Eyeliner in Brown(Out) ended up being the perfect shade of light brown to line her eyes. I applied luminizer many places on her face... under the brow, the nose, and cheekbones. With her skin tone, I thought a peachy/pink blush would work best.. so I used my favorite Dior blush in My Lady (Limited edition from my Bday in March). My Guerlain Meteorites Pearls was applied to her cheeks, forehead, and nose for a just a touch of sparkle. As I did for Rachel, I lined her lips in the same Sephora pencil and finished it off with Orgasm glass. Products Marc Jacobs Beauty Highlighter Gel Eye Crayon in Brown (Out)- I have talked about gel liner in an earlier post. I love it. Goes on smoothly and really easy to blend. This particular color is brown with a touch of shimmer. 25 |
I haven't worn cateye in awhile... so I was a little nervous when I was drawing this one. But I must say I think it turned out pretty well thanks to Trish McEvoy's Liquid Eyeliner. The goal of shadow with a cat eye in my opinion, is to make the liner stand out and not overpowering the liner. My Rose Gold Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor eye shadow definitely kept it interesting... I was able to add some color and shine while adding to the boldness of the cateye. Crease color shouldn't be too dark for this... I try to make it appear as a subtle shadow (once again, so it doesn't overpower the eyeliner), so I used a taupe-brown color. And there ya go... the dynamics for a perfect cat eye look. Products Trish McEvoy Lash Enhancing Liquid Liner Pen- overpriced but a quality pen for sure. 48 |
Please note that I have not listed every single product I used for this post. The products I have not listed but referred to are addressed in my earlier posts. So if you are looking to find a particular product, refer back to my other posts. Also- never hesitate to contact me with any questions about my products, posts, and makeup advice in general. I also wanted to say that I picked up a Stage Makeup class this semester.... so stay tuned for pictures of my work to come. I have never worked with theater makeup before, so I am SO excited to start getting in to this class. I'm slowly on my way to living my dream....
Until next time,
Alex Bert
